Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News is reporting that the New York Jets have interest in signing impending free agent wide receiver Jeremy Maclin.
The Daily News has learned that the Jets covet free agent wide receivers Jeremy Maclin and Emmanuel Sanders with the hope that one or both can help revamp the league's 31st-ranked passing offense from last season.
Maclin, a former first round pick, is one of the best free agent receivers on the market, but he's coming off an ACL injury that ended his 2013 season before it ever started.. A team like the Jets, who clearly lack offensive weapons, could be desperate to pay Maclin a good deal in order to acquire his services. NYJ has the 11th most cap space heading into this offseason. Maclin would be teamed up with former Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinwheg, who now calls the offensive plays for the Jets. The Jets also reportedly have interest in Eagles free agent QB Michael Vick.
Must Reads
Maclin hasn't slammed the door shut on a return with the Eagles. He's said he is willing to take a one-year deal if it comes to that. Maclin doesn't need to be in a rush to sign, though. He could easily test the free agent waters and take the best deal offered to him.
Last week, Maclin tweeted "Stay Tuned...", which led some to believe Maclin had re-signed a deal with the Eagles. A report from BGN Radio member John Barchard even said that the Eagles had reached a deal with Maclin, but that hasn't turned out to be the case... or at least yet. Maclin took to Twitter again on Friday with a new message:
Last thing I'll write before this process is all over with...
