2014 NFL Mock Draft: Mocking the Draft Goes Three Rounds Deep

The Eagles address their secondary while adding an offensive playmaker along the way in this latest mock draft.

Now that the Super Bowl is over, it's officially time for all teams to look ahead to the off-season. In an effort to comply with this demand, SB Nation's Mocking the Draft recently released their latest 2014 NFL Mock Draft, and it goes three rounds deep. SB Nation also released the official 2014 NFL Draft order (through the first three rounds) now that the order has been finalized. The Eagles have picks No. 22 (1st), No. 54 (2nd), and No. 86 (3rd). Here are the Eagles mock selections:

22. Philadelphia Eagles - Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan State
On one hand, you could argue the Eagles were last in the NFL in pass defense because they were on the field so often. On the other hand, you point out that neither Bradley Fletcher or Cary Williams should be long-term solutions on the outside. Dennard is a press specialist who can hang with big receivers and is quick enough to stick with shifty pass catchers.

To no surprise, the first Eagles pick comes on the defensive side of the ball. Dennard seems to fit what the Eagles like in their cornerbacks, given his style of play. Fletcher and Williams were solid in 2013, but long-term depth is needed on the outside.

54. Philadelphia Eagles - Deone Bucannon, S, Washington State
Another secondary piece for the Eagles. Nate Allen is a free agent, and Patrick Chung didn't do much to live up to the contract he was given. Bucannon is a hard-hitting safety who can cover tight ends in man situations. He's a better coverage safety than he's given credit, and is a player who can set the tone in the back half.

The Eagles second selection is yet another defensive player that aims to bolster Philadelphia's secondary. Bucannon is considered to be one of the top safeties in this draft class. Funny enough, Bucannon is a player who had great games against the Oregon Ducks when Kelly was still coaching in the college ranks. It was apparent through last year's draft that Kelly targeted players who fit this bill (see: Zach Ertz, Matt Barkley, Jordan Poyer).

86. Philadelphia Eagles - De'Anthony Thomas, WR/RB, Oregon
It's hard to find a good spot for Thomas, but Chip Kelly knows how to use him. He could line up at wide receiver, running back and contribute on special teams.

Hey, an offensive player! This is a pick that will surely be common in many mock drafts. DAT used to play for Kelly and I'm sure the Eagles coach wouldn't mind a reunion with one of his former offensive weapons. DAT, who happens to be friends with wide receiver DeSean Jackson, could be used all over the Eagles offensive formations. From a being utilized as change of pace scatback, to lining up in the slot, to being a return man, DAT could offer the Eagles value in a number of ways.

What do you think of these picks?
