Super Bowl 48, Seahawks beat Broncos: Now it all makes sense - Field Gulls
At approximately 10PM EST, the Seattle Seahawks won their first Super Bowl Title. My Seattle Seahawks. The team I spent the past decade cheering on for. How many people get to say that in their lifetime? How many people get to see the things that I saw? Russell Wilson throw darts to Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse for touchdowns. Percy Harvin striking like a lightning bolt. Kam Chancellor playing out of his mind. Malcolm Smith. Earl Thomas. And then they brought the freaking Lombardi out and Paul Allen is hoisting it up like he just discovered Microsoft. There it was in all its metallic glory. Disbelief. Euphoria. Joy. Tears.

1. Philadelphia Eagles - NFL pundits spent the first nine months of 2013 prewriting Chip Kelly's NFL coaching obituary. The only logical answer is a massive over-correction. If DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper (yes, he'll be re-signed), holding the Lombardi Trophy together can't heal this wounded nation, I don't know what can.

On the first play from scrimmage in Super Bowl XLVIII, a bad snap went through Peyton Manning's hands into the end zone, and all Knowshon Moreno could do was jump on top of it for a safety. That would be a precursor of what was to come for the Denver Broncos. The Seattle Seahawks thoroughly dominated Manning and the Broncos, winning their first Super Bowl in franchise history, 43-8. Seattle's domination, especially on defense, began early. In the first quarter, Denver only ran seven plays on three possessions. One possession was the botched snap resulting in a safety, one was a three-and-out, and one ended on an interception by safety Kam Chancellor.
A Major Butt-Kicking - Tommy Lawlor, Iggles Blitz
This outcome doesn’t prove that defense wins championships. It also doesn’t prove that Peyton Manning isn’t a big game QB. Seattle dominated that game. They made big plays on offense, defense and special teams. That was a total team performance. The biggest takeaway for me was the speed of Seattle’s defense. They let Denver complete short passes. Seahawks LBs and DBs then flew to the ball and delivered punishing hits. Clean hits. The DEs were able to consistently pressure Peyton. They made him uncomfortable in the pocket and created INTs by hitting his arm as he threw the ball.

"I like Chip's approach," said Johnson, who was in New York last week promoting Fox's coverage of Super Bowl XLVIII. "For instance, when we came in the league, we played a [defensive] coverage. Phil Simms told Bill Parcells when we played the Giants, 'Hey, they're playing that college coverage.' And Parcells said, 'You better learn that college coverage because these guys know what they're doing.'
Eagles Draft Target: CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste - CSN Philly
Jean-Baptiste is still developing his overall game, but he has the ability to be a shutdown corner. He’s an explosive athlete, who plays with a good degree of suddenness. For his size, he adjusts well to the receiver coming out of his breaks by showcasing the ability to flip his hips, redirect and plant sharply, driving back to the ball. He can be intimidating to the opposition with his rangy frame, long arms and physical approach at the line of scrimmage. He quickly locates the ball in the air, keeps his head on a swivel, and positions himself to make a play with his exceptional ball skills. He diagnoses the action in front of him, displays good awareness and instincts, and is physical moving towards the ball from all angles. He could potentially provide a team with some versatility and line up at safety, which he played when he was in high school.

Here is Virginia DL Brent Urban. The Eagles talked to him at the Senior Bowl. He is 6-7, 298 and has long arms. Sound like a Chip Kelly guy to you? UVA used him as a DT, where he wasn’t a natural fit. Urban is meant to be a 3-4 DE. This is an impressive showing, but understand that he’s not some dominant player. Urban isn’t a 1st round type. Could go 2nd, 3rd or 4th. We’ll see.

You can call the Seattle Seahawks dominating victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 48 a truly impressive performance from the best team in the game. But it’s hard to call a 43-8 victory an entertaining one. So, in another year when our team failed to win the Lombardi trophy, it’s nice to go out with a couple of Manning faces on a cold night in New Jersey.
