2014 NFL Mock Draft: Could Justin Gilbert Be the Best Player Available for the Eagles?

SB Nation's Mocking the Draft released their latest 2014 NFL Mock Draft on Monday. This is a first round only mock. Let's take a look at who they have the Eagles taking this time around.

22. Philadelphia Eagles - Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State - The run on cornerbacks should start with Green Bay. Gilbert has some flaws on tape, but they're all coachable points. He's a better athlete than the other top cornerbacks in the draft this year.

Gilbert is hardly a new name to be mocked to the Eagles, given their need for improvement in the secondary.  The 6-0, 202 pound senior has the length the Eagles like as well as the ability to return kicks.  As I've said before, however, I get the sense that the team is generally satisfied with Bradley Fletcher and Cary Williams as their starting cornerbacks. That doesn't preclude them from taking a corner, but it makes me wonder how likely the chances are. Drafting a corner in the first would give the Eagles immediate depth and more of a long-term answer moving forward.

But the Eagles won't draft solely based on need, as GM Howie Roseman has stated. So is Justin Gilbert the best available player in this case? A look at the names who were taken after pick No. 22:

FS Jimmie Ward
CB Darqueze Dennard
OG Xavier Su'a-Filo
WR Brandin Cooks
CB Jason Verrett
WR Odell Beckham
TE Jace Amaro
CB Bradley Roby
OLB Ryan Shazier
DE Scott Crichton

What do you make of the pick? Were there better options available?
