The first day 2014 NFL Combine drills has arrived. On schedule for today are three groups: tight ends, offensive linemen, and special teams players. The action starts at 9 AM EST and will be aired on NFL Network. Click here for a full list of the workouts and combine participants. None of these positions are particularly high needs for the Eagles, but they should still be monitored closely.
Tight End - [Eagles Position Review]
The Eagles have three tight ends who finished the season on the roster: veteran Brent Celek, rookie Zach Ertz, and free agent signing James Casey. Emil Igwenagu spent some time on the regular season roster before being sent down to the practice squad. Could the Eagles look to carry four tight ends into the season again next year? It's certainly possible. The Eagles won't be shy to add another weapon to the offense if there's one available.
Mel Kiper's Top 5 Tight Ends
1. *Eric Ebron, North Carolina
2. *Jace Amaro, Texas Tech
3. *Troy Niklas, Notre Dame
4. *Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Washington
5. C.J. Fiedorowicz, Iowa
Offensive Line - [Eagles Position Review]
The Eagles' offensive line paved the way for the NFL leading rusher LeSean McCoy. They weren't are sharp in pass protection, but they were still above average. Aside for Lane Johnson and Jason Kelce, the Eagles offensive line is aging. Drafting offensive line depth will be a serious option.
Mel Kiper's Top 5 Tackles
1. *Greg Robinson, Auburn
2. Jake Matthews, Texas A&M
3. Taylor Lewan, Michigan
4. Zack Martin, Notre Dame
5. *Cyrus Kouandjio, Alabama
Mel Kiper's Top 5 Guards
1. Gabe Jackson, Mississippi State
2. *David Yankey, Stanford
3. Brandon Thomas, Clemson
4. *Xavier Su'a-Filo, UCLA
5. Cyril Richardson, Baylor
Special Teams - [Eagles Position Review]
The Eagles will look to challenge Alex Henery this offseason, but I'm not so sure they need to spend a draft pick to do that. Perhaps the Eagles can get an early look at an undrafted free agent.
Mel Kiper's Top 5 Kickers
1. Anthony Fera, Texas
2. Zach Hocker, Arkansas
3. Chris Boswell, Rice
4. Cairo Santos, Tulane
5. Carey Spear, Vanderbilt
