It's official: the Philadelphia Eagles will own pick No. 20 in the 2015 NFL Draft. The Eagles clinched their spot in the draft order with a Week 17 win over the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon.
Must Reads
Pick No. 20 is the lowest possible draft slot for a non-playoff team. It is arguably the worst pick to have:
"Why is it the worst pick, you ask? It's simple: pick No. 20 is the lowest possible pick a non-playoff team can have. Bad teams get rewarded with high picks. Good teams receive low picks, but they're OK with that because it's essentially the cost of making the playoffs. The Eagles are caught in a trap of mediocrity where they won't make the playoffs but they also won't get a great pick."
While it's not an ideal situation, there are still good players available at the pick if history is any indication. The last ten players to be drafted at No. 20, in order, include: Brandon Cooks, Kyle Long, Kendall Wright, Adrian Clayborn, Kareem Jackson, Brandon Pettigrew, Aqib Talib, Aaron Ross, Tamba Hali, Marcus Spears.
There are many needs on this Eagles roster, and the draft will be a great way to add more young talent. Philadelphia owns all of their draft picks in every round and might receive an additional fourth depending on the conditions of the Bryce Brown trade. The Eagles' 2014 draft class didn't look so hot on the whole, so it will be that much more crucial for them to hit on this upcoming one.
The 2015 NFL Draft will be held from April 30 through May 2 in Chicago. Only 123 days away!
