Cody Parkey breaks Eagles single-season record for points scored

Philadelphia's rookie kicker has been a bright spot in a disappointing season.

Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia rookie kicker Cody Parkey made history during the Eagles 34-26 victory over the Giants on Sunday. His 10 points in the finale helped set a new team record for scoring. His 145 points eclipsed David Akers' former mark and also broke the NFL rookie scoring record set by Bears kicker Kevin Butler in 1985.

The Jupiter, Fla. native was acquired by the Eagles during the third week of the preseason. Philadelphia traded undrafted running back David Fluellen to Indianapolis for Parkey. Then-incumbent kicker Alex Henery had been struggling throughout the preseason and his competition, Carey Spear, was non-existent. A stellar performance by Parkey in the preseason finale forced the Eagles to move away from Henery and stick with the rookie.

The trade has clearly worked out well for Philadelphia, as Parkey has been terrific throughout the season. He made 32-of-36 field goal attempts (88.9%) and all 54 of his extra point attempts during his rookie year.
