The NFL has announced the nominees for their various weekly awards and Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy is up for the FedEx Ground Player Of The Week. McCoy ran for a season-high 159 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries (6. 4 average) in Philadelphia's 33-10 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
It was the second game in a row where McCoy has rushed for over 100 yards. It's the fourth time this season McCoy hit the century mark. For all the talk of McCoy's early season struggles, he looks much better now with the return of a healthy offensive line. McCoy ranks third in the NFL in rushing yards with 1,018. Only league-leading rusher DeMarco Murray and Le'Veon Bell have more yards. Also note that with 6,491 career rushing yards, McCoy is only 47 yards shy of Wilbert Montgomery’s franchise record of 6,538 yards.
McCoy is up against two other candidates: St. Louis Rams rookie running back Tre Mason and Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson. Mason rushed for two touchdowns and 117 yards on just 14 carries (8.4 average) while also catching a receiving touchdown in the Rams' 52-0 victory over the Oakland Raiders. Anderson rushed for 168 yards on 32 attempts (5.3 average) and caught one receiving touchdown in Denver's 29-16 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
