The Philadelphia Eagles were by defeated the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field, 38-27. The Eagles dropped to 9-5 on the 2014 NFL Season. Read on for a drive-by-drive recap of the game. Up next for Philadelphia is a road game against the Washington Redskins.

FIRST QUARTER

Eagles win the toss, elects to receive. The kickoff falls short of Philadelphia's return coverage and Dallas recovers. Well, that's about as bad of a start that can happen. Josh Huff must have lost the ball in the lights... or something. Brad Smith had an opportunity to field it as well. Weird play, especially for a special teams unit that's been so good this year. Not helped by the fact the ball bounced back.

Cowboys 1st drive: Touchdown (7-0, Cowboys)

Cowboys open in very good field position. Dallas moves the chain and DeMarco Murray rushes for a short score.

Eagles 1st drive: Punt

Short pass to Riley Cooper for no gain. False start. Mark Sanchez guns a pass to LeSean McCoy on third down and it's incomplete off McCoy's hand. Not good for the Birds.

Cowboys 2nd drive: Touchdown (14-0, Cowboys)

A 68-yard punt from Donnie Jones pins Dallas at their own 12-yard line. Really bad return coverage for the Cowboys. Punt returner Dwayne Harris was forced to run up and cover the Eagles' gunner because no one was on him.

Eagles defense allows a third down conversion to Jason Witten. Cary Williams gets his hands on a Tony Romo pass and it falls to the ground. Almost a pick-six. Witten moves the chains on third down again with Malcolm Jenkins trailing in coverage. Witten moves the chains again. Dallas moves into goal territory. Dallas gets a new set of downs due to a Cary Williams illegal contact penalty. Really late flag on the play. May have been a tacky call. Romo completes a pass to Dez Bryant for a touchdown. Cowboys go up two scores to open the game.

Eagles 2nd drive: Punt

Three and out. Two running attempts fail before Mark Sanchez is sacked on third down. No life.

Cowboys 3rd drive: (Continued below)

Eagles not getting any pressure. Dallas moves into field goal range but a holding penalty sets the Cowboys back.

SECOND QUARTER

Cowboys 3rd drive: Touchdown (21-0, Cowboys)

The Eagles sack Romo and force a fourth down but wait... it's another illegal contact penalty on Cary Williams. Another Dallas first down, and it's very costly. Cowboys respond with a Dez Bryant touchdown. Bradley Fletcher trailed in coverage.

Eagles 3rd drive: Touchdown (21-7, Cowboys)

Eagles pick up a first down (wow!) after Sproles moves the chains. Josh Huff can't hold on to a pass that was thrown high by Sanchez. Sanchez then finds Brent Celek for a big gain over the middle of the field. Then it's Ertz to move the Eagles in goal position. Chris Polk takes the carry and rushes five yards for the score. Philadelphia has life.

Cowboys 4th drive: Punt

Dallas moves the chain before facing 3rd-and-1. Romo gets sacked on the player. Huge stop for Philadelphia's defense. Sack number 14.5 for Barwin on the season.

Eagles 4th drive: Field goal (21-10, Cowboys)

Zach Ertz catches a pass and jumps over a Dallas defender to move the chains. McCoy finds some success on the ground. Celek catches a pass. Jordan Matthews drops a pass over the middle. Tough one, but should have had it. Dallas snuffs out a backside screen to Sproles to force 3rd-and-13. Nothing going because Sanchez couldn't find an open Maclin. Cody Parkey comes in for the kick and nails it from 47 yards out.

Cowboys 5th drive: Time expires

Dallas driving with less than a minute left in the half. Cowboys get to mid-field but get called for a hold that sets them back.

Cowboys punt and the clock expires.

THIRD QUARTER

Cowboys 6th drive: Punt

Cowboys suffer a false start on third down. Romo airs it out and Cary Williams gets called for pass interference deep down the field. Just a bad game for the veteran cornerback. Cedric Thornton sacks Romo to force 3rd-and-19. Romo airs it out deep again but Terrance Williams is called for offensive pass interference.

Eagles 5th drive: Touchdown (21-17, Cowboys)

Sanchez finds Maclin to move the chains on third down. Tough extended grab by Maclin. Ertz draws a defensive holding penalty. Sanchez hits Maclin wide open deep along the sideline and he takes off to the house with Jordan Matthews blocking for him. Maclin gets down at the one and loses control of the ball. Jason Garrett challenges the ruling but Maclin's arm was clearly down. The ruling is confirmed. Polk takes the ball in for an easy score. All he does is score touchdowns.

Cowboys 7th drive: Fumble

Vintage Romo spin move to escape a sack. Malcolm Jenkins comes up with a big tackle for loss on Murray. Romo has a ton of time to throw due to a three-man rush but gets sacked from behind by Vinny Curry. The ball pops out and the Cowboys offensive line doesn't realize that. Eagles recover.

Eagles 6th drive: Touchdown (24-21, Eagles)

LeSean McCoy fails to punch it in and gets ruled just short of the goal line. Sanchez hands the ball off to Sproles and the veteran running back gets around the edge and in for the score. Great lead block by... LeSean McCoy (!?) on the play. Eagles take the lead for the first time all game.

Cowboys 8th drive: Touchdown (28-24, Cowboys)

Dallas drives into field goal range. Then they move into goal territory after a big pass to Dez Bryant.

Eagles 7th drive: Interception

Sanchez throws a pass a little too far in front of a diving Ertz on 3rd-and-7. The pass goes off the second-year tight end's hands and into the arms of J.J. Wilcox. Bad pass. It would have taken an incredible play from Ertz to hold on to that one.

FOURTH QUARTER

Cowboys 9th drive: Touchdown (35-24, Cowboys)

Romo throws a perfect touch pass to find Dez Bryant in the end zone for the third time on the night. Great throw. Guess who was beaten in coverage? Bradley Fletcher.

Eagles 8th drive: Field goal (35-27, Cowboys)

Mark Sanchez sacked for a huge loss on first down. Huge catch and run by Josh Huff. A Dallas penalty tacks on 15 yards after the play. Sanchez overthrows a wide open Celek on second down. The Eagles have to settle for a field goal after Sanchez's pass to Ertz is short of the chains. Parkey drills the attempt to make it a one score game.

Cowboys 10th drive: Punt

Three and out. Eagles get a crucial stop on 3rd-and-1. Barwin with the tackle.

Eagles 9th drive: Fumble

Celek catches a pass over the middle and fumbles. Just bad luck. That's his third fumble in 125 career games played. Really bad timing for him and the Eagles.

Cowboys 11th drive: Field Goal (38-27, Cowboys)

Cowboys take over in good field position. Holding on Murray sets the Eagles back. Dan Bailey kicks a 49-yard field goal.

Eagles 10th drive: Punt

Sanchez sacked. Sanchez sacked. 4th-and-25. Punt.

Cowboys 12th drive: Punt

Running clock and punt.

Eagles 11th drive:

Sanchez interception, game over.

The Eagles are now 9-5 on the 2014 NFL season. Really bad loss.
