Evan Mathis activated from injured reserve, designated to return

Evan Mathis is officially back.

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

It's official: Philadelphia Eagles left guard Evan Mathis has returned to the team's active roster. Mathis had been serving time on the team's injured reserve, designated to return list after suffering an MCL tear in Week 1.

Mathis returned to practice two weeks ago. The veteran offensive lineman has stated he's ready to step in right away, so expect him to start this week. Mathis will take over at left guard in-between left tackle Jason Peters and starting center Jason Kelce.

The return of Mathis is a great sign for Philadelphia's rushing attack. Mathis is very athletic and has proved to be a great run blocker during his tenure. The Eagles' run game suffered early on in the season while Mathis was out. Now Philadelphia can get back to their run-heavy offensive identity.

With Mathis returning at left guard, second-year blocker Matt Tobin will shift over to right guard to replace Todd Herremans. Herremans was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list on Monday night due to a torn biceps injury.
