The Philadelphia Eagles have released their first injury report in preparation of their Week 6 game against the New York Giants.
A number of players were missing from the team's Wednesday practice. Among those players were starting inside linebackers DeMeco Ryans and Mychal Kendricks. More on them here. There still seems to be optimism regarding Ryans' playing chances. Kendricks, on the other hand, is less certain to suit up on game-day. The combination of backup linebackers Casey Matthews, Emmanuel Acho, and Marcus Smith II will fill in for any absences.
Third string running back and kick returner Chris Polk did not practice again. Polk's status seems in doubt because he is dealing with the same hamstring issue that kept him out of action in the summer. With Polk out, rookie wide receiver Josh Huff and rookie tight end Trey Burton have been handling kickoffs. The Eagles have also used running back Darren Sproles and cornerback Nolan Carroll II on kick returns this season. Burton will likely be the team's third string running back behind LeSean McCoy and Sproles if Polk can't play. Burton rushed for 720 yards on 153 attempts while playing for Florida in college.
Depth wide receiver and special teams contributor Brad Smith has been ruled due to a groin injury. Smith usually serves as the emergency quarterback behind Nick Foles and Mark Sanchez one game-day while Matt Barkley is kept inactive. With Smith out, tight end James Casey will likely serve as the emergency quarterback.
Jason Kelce has also been ruled out. The team's starting center isn't expect to return around Week 10 but Kelce did recently say he is ahead of schedule.
