Cardinals-Eagles Injury Report: Darren Sproles, Mychal Kendricks ruled questionable

Eagles injury update for Friday, October 23rd, 2014.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles have released their final injury report in preparation of their Week 8 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Starting inside linebacker Mychal Kendricks has been ruled questionable to play. The third-year player has been limited in practice all week and hasn't played since Week 2 due to a calf injury. If Kendricks is out, the trio of Casey Matthews, Emmanuel Acho, and rookie first round draft pick Marcus Smith II will fill in.

Offensive weapon Darren Sproles has also been ruled questionable due to a knee injury. Sproles, like Kendricks, has been limited in practice all week. If Sproles can't play, backup running back Chris Polk will serve as relief to starting rusher LeSean McCoy. Polk has been dealing with a hamstring issue that kept him out of the team's Week 6 game but he has been a full participant in practice this week. He is probable to play. Expect Polk to receive some touches if Sproles can't suit up. Polk also might resume his role as the primary kick returner. With McCoy and Polk possibly the only active running backs on game day, expect rookie tight end Trey Burton to serve as the emergency running back.

Starting center Jason Kelce has been ruled questionable, but he likely won't play. Backup center David Molk will start in his place. Kelce has been limited in practice all week and has been out of action since suffering a sports hernia in Week 3. The fourth-year offensive lineman will likely return as soon as Philadelphia's Week 9 game or as late as the Week 10 game.

Speaking of the latter, starting left guard Evan Mathis will return to game action in less than two weeks. The All-Pro veteran returned to practice this week in a limited capacity but he won't be able to return to the active 53-man roster until Week 10.

Special teams contributor and depth wide receiver Brad Smith is still out due to a groin injury. Smith's absence will mean more playing time for former Oregon wide receivers Josh Huff and Jeff Maehl.
