Kirk Cousins benched for Colt McCoy by Washington Redskins

NFC East update.

Larry French

Washington Redskins fill-in starting quarterback Kirk Cousins has been benched in D.C. The Colt McCoy era has begun in Washington.

No, that's not a typo. This is actually happening. To make matters even more entertaining, McCoy threw a touchdown pass to Washington wide receiver Pierre Garcon on his first pass attempt. To be fair, Garcon was aided by some terrible pass defense by the Tennessee Titans. GIF via @cjzero:

Cousins had been filling in for injured third-year full-time starter Robert Griffin III. Cousins threw 10 touchdowns to 9 interceptions during his playing time. For now, it appears Cousins has blown his chance at proving he's more than just a backup.

But now it appears Washington has something of a new quarterback controversy on their hands. It seems likely that Griffin III will return as a starter when he recovers from injury, but there are still a lot of question marks surrounding the talented prospect. The prime one being: can he stay healthy? If the veteran journeyman McCoy plays well while Griffin III is still out, does Washington stick with him?

Stay tuned for more LolSkins hilarity to come. Meanwhile, enjoy the Washington QB situation summed up in one picture:
