The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that running back/punt returner/offensive weapon/bundle of joy Darren Sproles has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 4 of the 2014 NFL season. This is just the second time in his nine-year career that Sproles has been honored with this award.
Sproles earned this honor for his brilliant 82-yard punt return touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers. Watch the play below:
Sproles' return was the longest of his career. Through just four games with the Eagles, Darren Sproles has already topped career highs in: longest career run, most receiving yards in a game, and longest punt return. Sproles is 31 and has played in 122 games prior to the 2014 season.
Sproles is also the first player in NFL history to win both Offensive Player of the Week (Sproles won this award following his Week 2 performance) and Special Teams Player of the Week in the first month of a season.
Can you believe the Eagles only traded away a fifth round pick to get this guy?
