Eagles head coach Chip Kelly recruited cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu to Oregon. He is familiar with the two-time All-Pac-12 defensive back and likely would have been looking at him to improve the Eagles secondary as a possible first-round pick. However, the soon-to-be senior plans to return to Oregon for his final season with the Ducks, according to Rob Moseley of GoDucks.com.
Ekpre-Olomu was considered a possible target of the Eagles due to his size, skills and familiarity with Kelly. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound cornerback is a back-to-back first team All-Pac-12 selection for the Ducks and has been an asset to their defense since his true freshmen season. He is currently listed as the No. 2 cornerback prospect in the league by CBS Sports. His decision to return could impact the Eagles draft plans, as it makes the cornerback class a bit more shallow, which could takeaway options for defensive back-needy teams.
CBS Sports currently ranks Mighican State's Darqueze Dennard as the top cornerback prospect in the draft. He is followed by Oklahoma State's Justin Gilbert and TCU's Jason Verrett.
The Ekpre-Olomu return likely takes the edge off for Ducks fans after losing running back De'Anthony Thomas to the draft. Thomas announced he was leaving Oregon on Sunday.
