The Eagles have some decisions to make at wide receiver with DeSean Jackson wanting a bump in pay and having a pair of talented pass-catchers hitting the open market. Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper have played for the Eagles for their entire careers, but are now scheduled to hit free agency in March. However, both would prefer to stay in Philadelphia.
Cooper told reporters following Saturday's loss to the Saints that he wanted to return to the Eagles, according to Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Daily News. Maclin said that his preference is also stay in Philadelphia, according to Philly.com's Zach Berman. While Cooper had a career-year in Chip Kelly's offense, Maclin tore his ACL prior to the preseason and was unable to participate on the field all season.
For the Eagles, this situation is actually pretty ideal. Maclin is not likely get a long-term, big money deal in the offseason after suffering a major leg injury and Cooper's starting wide receiver market should not be all that large. Cooper clearly benefited from Kelly's offense and was valuable due to his offense. The four-year player also has a very strong connection on the field with quarterback Nick Foles. Maclin also played very well with Foles at quarterback in 2012.
It should be noted that both players have acknowledged each other as being their "best friend" on the team.
