A few weeks ago, a report emerged stating Michael Vick was open to returning to the Eagles in 2014. That possibility doesn't seem realistic now, if Vick's comments after the Eagles' season-ending loss to the Saints are any indication.
Per BGN alumnus Eliot Shorr-Parks:
When asked if he would come back to Philadelphia next season, Vick simply shook his head no. "I'm still a starter," Vick said. "I'm not a backup quarterback." Which means unless something drastic changes, Vick's time in Philadelphia is over. "This very well could be," Vick said when asked if this was his last game in an Eagles uniform.
Vick started six games for the Eagles in 2013 after entering the season as the team's starter. Vick won the starting job over Nick Foles after an offseason-long QB battle throughout training camp and preseason. Vick lost his job to second year quarterback Nick Foles mid-season. Foles took over and played well after Vick went down with a hamstring injury. Vick handled his demotion well and proved to be a good teammate.
But now that Vick's deal is set to end and he's scheduled to be a 2014 free agent in a weak quarterback market, it seems a return to the Eagles is unlikely. The Eagles may want Vick to return, but Vick is likely seeking a starting job (or at least the chance of one) elsewhere.
If Vick leaves in free agency, the Eagles will need to address their backup quarterback situation in the offseason.
