A rumor has emerged that the Eagles have re-signed impending free agent wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. BGN's own John Barchard has the news:
Source: "#Eagles are going sign Maclin to a two year deal."
— John Barchard (@JohnBarchard) January 31, 2014
The note on Maclin's contract length is interesting. A short-term deal would make sense considering it is in the best interest of both parties. The Eagles clearly value Maclin, but there is risk when it comes to signing a player who is coming off a major injury.
Maclin missed the entire 2013 season having suffered an ACL injury early in training camp. Prior to last season, he had only missed five games in his first four seasons combined. One can only imagine how Maclin could have excelled as a key piece in Chip Kelly's offense.
Barchard noted he hasn't been able to confirm his report, but he does trust what he's hearing.
All unconfirmed. Not trying to be @AdamSchefter or blow up a TL, just keeping my ear to the ground. #Eagles

The timing of this report is curious when you consider Jeremy Maclin's "Stay Tuned" tweet earlier on Friday.
Stay tuned y'all.....

Barchard's report falls in line with another report this off-season regarding Maclin's return. Early in January, Jason Ashworth of 97.5 The Fanatic reported Maclin would be re-signing with the team after the playoffs are over. And with Super Bowl Sunday nigh, the season's end is drawing near.
If this rumor is true, it's good news for the Eagles. A new contract would prevent Maclin from entering the 2014 free agent market and the subsequent risk of him signing with another team.
Stay tuned to BGN for the latest developments regarding this report.
[Note by Brandon Lee Gowton, 01/31/14 7:02 PM EST] - Les Bowen of the Daily News says: "Sorry to disappoint fans who were getting all excited, but I'm told by source w/knowledge of situation, nothing imminent w/Jeremy Maclin. Again, I still think Maclin returns to the Eagles, but right now is really early for stuff like that."
[Note by Brandon Lee Gowton, 01/31/14 7:18 PM EST] - Barchard: "Les Bowen has way better sources than I do. So might not be a fast [signing], but I am still standing by the 2 year deal."
