THE MACHINE IS BLEEDING TO DEATH - Jon Bois, SBN NFL
A masterpiece: the Breaking Madden Super Bowl.
LeSean McCoy comments on yet another player, and this time it's Richard Sherman - JimmyK, Philly.com
McCoy was asked by Cohen, "Who's the guy in the NFL that you would look at and say, 'God, I would never want that guy on my team, he's too annoying. I wouldn't want him around me.' You're opinionated. I mean, besides Osi..." Never one to turn down an opportunity to talk about another player, Shady responded, "Sherman." McCoy was of course referring to outspoken, trash-talking Seahawks CB Richard Sherman.
Leadership - Tommy Lawlor, Iggles Blitz
A team can move along smoothly when things are going well. Leaders and high character players are important when things start to go awry. The Steelers started off 0-4. They were able to rely on key leaders and rallied to finish 8-8. Houston started off 2-0. They lost the last 14 games. So often we think of leadership as rah-rah stuff. Most of the time it is more about doing the right thing and players holding one another accountable. That doesn’t make for compelling storylines, but it’s the truth. I’m talking about all of this because the Eagles have some tough choices coming up. Players like Todd Herremans, Brent Celek, Jason Avant, Trent Cole and DeMeco Ryans have been important for the Eagles on and off the field. They are now getting to the point in their careers when the team has to start looking into replacing them.
Foles: I’m Not Afraid To Throw an INT - Sheil Kapadia, Birds 24/7
The numbers suggest Foles was more than willing to sling it downfield all season long. He led the NFL averaging 9.12 yards per attempt, and 27.4 percent of his throws traveled more than 15 yards downfield. That was the highest mark in the league among qualified starters, per ESPN Insider.
Foles Reflects On 2013 Season - Alex Smith, PE.com
The goal for Nick Foles and the rest of the Eagles was to be playing in the Super Bowl this Sunday. While they came up short in bringing a championship to Philadelphia this year, the Eagles certainly accomplished a great amount in 2013. On Thursday, Foles joined ESPN Radio's "Mike and Mike" to discuss what this past season meant to both him and the rest of the franchise moving forward.
Hollis Thomas says Eagles 'got cheated' out of Super Bowl XXXIX win - Stan Hochman, Daily News
HOLLIS THOMAS played defensive tackle for the Eagles at 300 pounds, so sticks and stones wouldn't put a dent in him. Words? Spitballs off a battleship! So, go ahead and call him a sore loser. Tell him he's up to his eyeballs in sour grapes when he yelps about Super Bowl XXXIX, Patriots 24, Eagles 21. "Sore loser?" Thomas barks angrily. "We got cheated! It's not sour grapes. We got cheated!"
LeSean McCoy: 'It's time to win a championship' - CSN Philly
LeSean McCoy wants to win a Super Bowl, and he wants to win it for you.
Shoulder Pads Slim Down in Faster, Sleeker N.F.L. - NYTimes.com
If they turn on the Super Bowl on Sunday, casual football fans who have not watched a game in a few years might wonder, "Who shrank the shoulder pads?" As players have grown heavier in the N.F.L., shoulder pads have become lighter by as much as 50 percent over the past 10 to 15 years, manufacturers said. Gone the way of other fashion excesses of the 1980s are enormous pads that once cantilevered out from the shoulders and seemed to engulf a player like a treehouse for the head.
