Senior Bowl practice notes: Day 1 - JimmyK, Philly.com
The Eagles were extremely busy speaking with prospects after each practice today, more so than I've ever seen them in my 3 years covering the Senior Bowl. To note, the Eagles will speak with every prospect during the "speed dating sessions" while they are here, but it is still interesting to see who the scouts and assistant coaches specifically spend some extra time with after practices. Here is a list who they spoke with, and if you'll notice, they were all defensive players.
Senior Bowl Update - Tommy Lawlor, Iggles Blitz
The Eagles were active and aggressive. They also talked to players at night back at the team hotel. Those interviews can be very important. That’s where they really sit down and talk to a guy and get an in-depth feel for him. The meetings on the practice field are quick chats. They can give you an idea of who the Eagles are interested in. Get ready to hear about DE Brent Urban and ILB Christian Jones a lot. I liked both players coming into today. Seeing the Eagles show interest in them makes sense because of their size and the positions they play.
Pauline's Senior Bowl Wrap-Up: Day 1 - Tony Pauline, PE.com
Dontae Johnson/DB/North Carolina State: Both safety and cornerback are need positions for the Eagles and Johnson, Earl Wolff’s former defensive backfield mate, could fill either spot. On Monday, he was the most dominant defensive back for the North, shutting down opponents in drills then keeping the momentum going in full scrimmage. Johnson, 6-2, 199, possesses next-level size and showed an array of ball skills all practice long. He has the cover skills to play cornerback and the size to move inside to safety for any NFL team.
Foles' former coach still admires his resilience - Jeff McLane, Inquirer
Frank Sceflo didn't know if Nick Foles would be an NFL starting quarterback. He doesn't know even after the Eagles quarterback's record-setting season if his former pupil will be the team's long-term solution at the position. But one thing Sceflo said he knows about Foles is that when he hits a rough patch, he'll do whatever is necessary to weather the storm. He has already bounced back from a career-worst performance against the Cowboys in October.

* It is very possible that ILB Jordan Zumwalt will be my favorite player when I leave Mobile. He is a mean, nasty LB. A player started to the inside today after a short catch. Zumwalt came over and leveled the guy. There wasn’t supposed to be full contact and Zumwalt got a bit of heat for the hit. I’d rather have a LB that I had to tone down than one I had to pump up. Had a cut on his forehead tonight from some hit he gave/took today. Fun guy to watch.
A Few Notes On Maclin - Tim McManus, Birds 24/7
Maclin’s agent and Howie Roseman have had some preliminary talks. It has been made clear that the receiver’s first choice is to stay in Philadelphia. That doesn’t mean it’s a lock that he is back. Maclin will probably have several suitors, some of whom might be willing to offer more years and money than the Eagles are. What happens if he receives a multi-year deal from Team X and only a one-year deal from the Eagles? Depends on which team we’re talking about and how much money is on the table. Maclin’s camp will evaluate each scenario from a variety of angles before making a decision. This doesn’t feel like a "highest dollar" situation. Fit is important. The 25-year-old is open to playing on a one-year deal if need be.
