For Eagles free-agent-to-be Jeremy Maclin, a one-year deal is a realistic possibility. And he knows it. "I understand it could be a possibility that [the ACL tear] may scare some teams off, or a team may want to do a one-year deal as opposed to a long-term contract," Maclin told CSN's Derrick Gunn in an exclusive interview Monday. "That's the game, that's the business."

Maclin is 25 and only missed four games in his first four seasons. He can win consistently against man coverage, line up in a variety of places (385 of his receiving yards in 2012 came from the slot per PFF) and fits the culture that Kelly is trying to establish. But there’s no need to shell big money if a strong market emerges for Maclin. Cooper had done very little until he found himself in Kelly’s system. Given the money committed to DeSean Jackson and LeSean McCoy, along with Kelly’s emphasis on tight ends, there’s a strong case that it might not be necessary for the Eagles to invest big dollars in their No. 2 receiver. If I’m Howie Roseman, I keep in contact with Maclin’s camp, see how the market develops and stick to a specific number when determining whether it’s worth it to bring him back.

Jimmy Garoppolo/QB/Eastern Illinois: All eyes were on Garappolo, the highest-rated prospect invited to participate at the Shrine Game, and the small-school signal-caller did not disappoint. He displayed a next-level arm as well as complete poise and control all day. What was really impressive was the way Garappolo accurately delivered passes to receivers he was throwing to for the first time. Rumor is there could be an invitation to next week’s Senior Bowl in the offing for Garappolo and today, at least, he proved he belongs on the field with the best the senior class has to offer.

Professional football coach Chip Kelly has a project away from the gridiron this offseason: renovating his home on Wentworth Road in Rye. With his Philadelphia Eagles now eliminated from the NFL playoffs, Kelly may have more time to focus on the upgrades that are planned for the property he owns at 33 Wentworth Road. On Wednesday night, the Rye Zoning Board of Adjustment granted Kelly the required variances for a proposed new addition at the front of the house, updates to patio areas and the addition of a "Captain's Walk" at the roof line.
