...Casey Matthews, and it's not even close.
As a refresher, here's the criteria for the inaugural Reno Mahe award.
The "Reno Mahe Award" will be given to the player that the fanbase has an overwhelming urge to see cut/shot into outer space. This player will be someone who has been fortunate enough to remain on the roster despite inadequate/fringe talent, overwhelming salary, bust status and/or lack of importance to success. Reno Mahe was a true example of what the award acknowledges, which is a player who sticks around waaaay longer than he should, for reasons that defy acceptable explanation.
Right or wrong, there's no player that draws more negative attention than Matthews. Some question why he's still on the roster, especially since the Eagles cut OLB Chris McCoy and ILB Emmanuel Acho. McCoy and Acho seemingly had great preseasons. Matthews looked solid up until the last game where he struggled against the Jets backups. I'm sure a number of Eagles fans would love to see Matthews cut.
I personally think the Matthews hate is full of excessive hyperbole. He's an experienced LB who offers good special teams play and versatility. He's not a great player by any means, but he's a solid backup. The way I see it, he's not nearly as horrible as he's dramatically made out to be, but some disagree.
S Kurt Coleman was the runner-up. A number of fans have made their displeasure for the backup Safety heard loud and clear.
