Pro Football Focus is a site that grades NFL player performances. Let's take a look at what they had to say about the performances in Philadelphia's loss to the Chargers.
PFF offers explanation on their grading system on their website. Read more about that here.
OFFENSE
Best
Evan Mathis +3.5
Jason Avant +2.9
LeSean McCoy +2.2
Worst
Lane Johnson -5.6
Todd Herremans -4.0
Riley Cooper -2.7
Jason Peters -1.6
Analysis: The Eagles offense only mustered 16 points against the Chiefs but moved the ball for 431 yards. Jason Avant was a reliable target for Michael Vick as he had 5 catches for 87 yards (17.4 avg) and 1 TD. Evan Mathis was rated well as always, especially in the run game. Speaking of the run game... even an ankle injury couldn't slow down Shady McCoy.
Lane Johnson really struggled with Chiefs OLB Justin Houstin. The Eagles first round rookie was credited for giving up 3 sacks and 3 hurries. Herremans also struggled as he gave up 5 hurries. Jason Peters may have had his worst game as an Eagle... while he performed well in the run game, he struggled in pass protection (5 hurries allowed). Cooper wasn't a reliable target. Vick targeted him 7 times and Riley only caught 2 passes (1 drop).
DEFENSE
Best
Fletcher Cox +4.7
Cary Williams +3.6
Trent Cole +1.6
Vinny Curry +1.3
Brandon Graham +1.2
Worst
Mychal Kendricks -5.3
DeMeco Ryans -3.4
Earl Wolff -1.4
Bennie Logan -1.4
Analysis: Philadelphia's defense looked better last night than it had been looking.
Fletcher Cox is a beast. He has 6.5 sacks in his last 10 games. Cary Williams tackled well and did OK in coverage, although I'm sure facing a QB in Alex Smith who can't throw down field helps with that. Trent Cole has been good in run defense. Vinny Curry only played 12 snaps, but managed 1 sack and 3 hurries! He needs to play more often. Graham had 1 sack and 1 hurry in 17 snaps. Play him more, too.
Kendricks was PFF's worst rated defender for the second week in a row. He missed 3 tackles against the Chiefs which gives him 8 missed tackles on the season. Kendricks, Ryans, and Wolff graded out poorly against the run.
