NFC East Report - Week 2 Standings

It's that time of week where BGN checks up on the Eagles' divisional neighbors: their NFC East rivals.

All four NFC (L)East teams played on Sunday, and each of them left week 2 with a loss. Everybody stinks!

First, a quick glance at the standings.

NFC East Standings:

1) Dallas Cowboys (1-1)
2) Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)
3) New York Giants (0-2)
4) Washington Redskins (0-2)

Next, let's immediately note how the Eagles are not last, and they at least have a win. Good stuff.

1) Cowboys

After beating the Giants in week 1, Dallas fell to the Chiefs in Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium. Old friend Andy Reid did the Eagles a solid. From SBN's Cowboys blog Blogging the Boys:

The Dallas Cowboys dropped a close game on the road to the Kansas City Chiefs, 17-16. It's a game they could have won, but they didn't and it's situation normal for the team from Dallas. The Cowboys can never build a big lead and hold it. They had a chance to start putting this game away when they led 10-7 and drove the ball deep into the Chiefs territory. A touchdown puts you up 17-7 and starts putting real pressure on the Chiefs offense. Instead they settled for a FG. No play was more indicative of how the Cowboys consistently lose football games than the play-call on 3rd and goal from the nine yard line.

Next up for the 'boys is a home game against the Rams.

2) Eagles

An impressive week 1 win against the Redskins was followed by a close loss at home against the San Diego Chargers. The Eagles had a chance to win the game but failed to capitalize on certain opportunities. From my BGN recap:

Football is a game of inches, as the cliche goes, and the inches weren't always on the Eagles' side. Philadelphia left so many points on the board. Missed opportunities galore. Ultimately, it cost them the game.

Next up: Andy Reid returns to Philadelphia on Thursday Night Football. Donovan McNabb's number being retired. Short week. Huge game for the Birds.

3) Giants

Well, well. Not exactly an ideal start for the G-Men, huh? New York committed a whopping six turnovers in their week 1 match up against Dallas. This week, the Giants only committed 4 turnovers: 4 INTs by Eli Manning. Progress! Too bad they got blown out by Peyton Manning and the Broncos, however. Big bro Manning beat Lil bro Manning, 41 to 23. From Big Blue View:

The Giants' biggest problem is their offense. Particularly the inability to run the football.

The Giants now have 10 turnovers in two games. Eli Manning threw four interceptions Sunday and leads the NFL with seven. The Giants finished 1-for-11 on third downs. They ran the ball 19 times for an embarrassing 23 yards, with their longest run being a six-yarder by David Wilson. They have now run for a whopping total of 73 yards in two games.

Next up: NYG looks for their first win as they travel to Carolina to take on Cam Newton and the Panthers.

4) Redskins

Last and certainly least... the Washington Redskins. The Redskins look like the LolSkins again as they were dismantled by Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. Plus, there is this fun article about DC fans calling for Kirk Cousins. To get a better DC perspective, we head to Hogs Haven:

That was one of the worst Redskins performances in Mike Shanahan's tenure in Washington. The Packers broke or equaled multiple franchise records on their way to a convincing 38-20 win over the Redskins.

Next up: A home game against the Detroit Lions.
