Chip Kelly made a great point the other night. He talked about how starters need to embrace the rotation. Some players didn’t want to come out of the game. Having seen what it is like to play a ton of snaps, hopefully these players will change their tune in coming games. In a normal scheme, starters hate to leave the field because it will limit their chances. By running an extra 10 to 20 plays, the players can know that there is time for them to rest and still get a good number of touches.

Zach Ertz lined up to the left of Jason Peters at the Eagles’ 46 yard line. When the ball was snapped, he took off down the seam before turning his head around, finding the ball, making the catch and somersaulting to the ground for an 11-yard gain. Ertz got up, found the official, tossed him the ball, looked towards the sideline for the next play and set up at the exact same spot in-line next to Peters. Not a lot to think about for the rookie after his first career catch. The Eagles were about to run the same play twice in a row. In fact, Chip Kelly called the play three times on one drive in a span of two minutes, two seconds. And in the first quarter alone, he went with it five times.

There were definitely things to be improved upon, and the game did not squelch some of the doubts of the team for this season, but the Philadelphia Eagles made the entire league sit up and take notice. Chip Kelly has changed this team dramatically, and the next few weeks will show us how much. The Eagles have the San Diego Chargers coming to Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, and I expect the fans to be out of their minds.

That's not to say the offense Kelly ran or the performance the Eagles put together was perfect. In fact, Philadelphia might be even more menacing after fixing a number of notable flaws. Michael Vick played well enough, but he made a number of mistakes that highlighted his limitations as a quarterback and his inexperience in Kelly's system. Those flaws were masked by the constant focus on how fast the Eagles were going, which wasn't really the most notable, exciting thing about the Philly offense on Monday night. If you want to talk about what was truly breathtaking and game-changing on Monday, you shouldn't start with how fast the Eagles snapped the ball. In fact, Kelly said after the game that he genuinely thought the offense went relatively slow. Instead, you should start with how fast the Eagles were after they snapped the football.

Amidst the controversy surrounding the Oklahoma State football program (and Sports Illustrated’s reporting on the Oklahoma State football program), Yahoo! Sports released its own improper benefits expose on Wednesday, alleging that five SEC football players, four former and one current, violated NCAA amateurism rules during the course of their college careers. Named in the report is Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, who played at Mississippi State from 2009-2011.
