Mark Sanchez injury will give Eagles' an extended look at Geno Smith on Thursday

Al Bello

The Jets are sorry to disappoint you, but any butt fumbles that may occur on Thursday night's preseason finale will not be involving Mark Sanchez. According to the team, Sanchez has been ruled out of the game against the Eagles at New Meadowlands Stadium and is officially listed as day-to-day after suffering shoulder injury during last Saturday's game against the Giants.

The absence of Sanchez means that the Eagles will be treated to a start from Geno Smith. The second-round pick has been sluggish in two preseason games thus far and even missed another game due to injury. In his two preseason appearances, Smith has thrown 37 passes for 22 completions, 246 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions.

The Eagles were rumored to be interested in Smith leading up to the 2013 NFL Draft, but the team passed on him twice before the Jets selected him with the 39th overall pick. If he can perform well on Thursday night, he may get to be the starting quarterback for New York fairly soon.

Who is excited to see Geno Smith? Do you think the Eagles were wrong to pass on him?
