BGN Staff talks about the Eagles players most likely to be among first cuts

John Geliebter-USA TODAY Sports

We are a little over one week away from from the first major cutting spree of the offseason, with rosters set to be limited to 75 active players by next Tuesday. The Eagles currently have 89 active players on the team (Phillip Hunt hasn't been placed on injured reserve yet), which means the front office will essentially have to let go of at least 13 players. The "first cuts" will take place three days after Week Three's game in Jacksonville against the Jaguars.

While we wait for what is likely the inevitable for some players, the BGN staff figured we would take a stab at the players most likely to be part of the mass exodus from Philadelphia. Here is who we think will be among the cuts on August 27th:

Mike Kaye (went with 14 because of Chip Kelly's desire for roster flexibility)

P Brad Wing - If you losing to a fellow LSU alum, I feel bad for you son. The Eagles have 99 problems but a punter ain't one.

DT Isaac Remington - Likely the number 90 guy on an 89-man roster. #UltimateCampBody.

OT Ed Wang - Big Wang is more of a punchline than a capable player.

OT Nic Purcell - Good practice squad candidate but really needs a ton of work.

OT Matt Kopa - Not high on the depth chart and really there are better players.

TE Will Shaw - Practice squad guy with upside but the tight end position is stacked.

WR/KR Nick Miller - The Eagles cut him once over guys like Will Murphy and Ifeanyi Momah, so why wouldn't they do it again?

WR Will Murphy - Oregon kid with little upside. Likely a future GA or coaching intern that Chip Kelly just likes having around.

RB Felix Jones - He is likely done because he really does nothing well anymore. Sad story but it is the truth.

QB G.J. Kinne - Kinne is team player and I think they will bring him back on the practice squad.

CB Trevard Lindley - Just not special enough to make a roster with a bunch of not-so-special cornerbacks.

LS James Winchester - Nice story but he's a rental.

LB Jamar Chaney - He's a really swell fella but not a fit for this roster. Will be on a team this season, just not our's.

S David Sims - Sims is only vulnerable if the team decides to go under 75. He hasn't shown up at all in the preseason or training camp.

Brandon Lee Gowton

OLB Everette Brown - Just hasn't impressed.

OL Nic Purcell - Not ready for NFL action quite yet.

DE Eddie McClam - Cool name, but nothing more than an extra body.

WR Ifeanyi Momah - Hasn't been able to impress. Could potentially make the practice squad.

WR Will Murphy - Former Oregon player. Caught up in a numbers game at wide receiver.

S Kenny Phillips - Reliability issues due to health.

DL Isaac Remington - Another former Oregon player. Chip thanks him for his services as a camp body.

C Matt Tennant - Fourth string Center?

DL Darywell Walker - Thanks for your time.

OT Ed Wang - Everybody have fun tonight!

FB/TE Emil Igwenagu - Injured and hasn't had a great camp. Best wishes elsewhere.

LS James Winchester - The opportunity of a lifetime for this young man comes to an end.

P Brad Wing - Interesting guy, but Donnie Jones is the winner of the punter battle.

This article is part of the debut for BGN's newest podcast called "Take the Points." The podcast features Brandon and I, and will serve as a companion to Tommy Lawlor's and Jimmy Kempski's show. Enjoy.
