The Linc - Chip Kelly's Double Stack Value Meal

Philadelphia Eagles links for 8/17/2013.

The Eagles have an open training camp practice at Lincoln Financial Field today. Don't forget to follow the wonderful BGN writers on Twitter:

Let's get to the links:

Eagles game breakdown: The kick return unit could be vastly improved - JimmyKempski, Philly.com
Over the last two seasons, the Eagles have had a grand total of ONE kick return that went for more than 33 yards. That is beyond pathetic, and should be an area where the Eagles will almost certainly be better in 2013. Last night against the Panthers, the Eagles showed signs of life in the kick return game.

Do Your Thing - Tommy Lawlor, Iggles Blitz
Kelly seems to do a good job of identifying what players do well and then putting them in position to succeed. Andy Reid talked about that all the time, but he often strayed from that principle because he was so focused on "his offense". Andy was so enamored with his ideas that he lost sight of doing what was best for the players.

Cary Williams’ Play Speaks For Itself - Danta Klaus, PhiladelphiaEagles.com
Cornerback Cary Williams spoke of the defense needing to find an attitude and form an identity. Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers was Williams’ inaugural game as an Eagle and, thus, his first chance to practice what he preached earlier in the week. He did not shy away from confrontation, upping the ante on chippiness early as he got into a shoving match with wide receiver Steve Smith after the whistle during the first drive.

Chip Kelly Update: the Double Stack Value Meal - Mark Saltveit, Fishduck.com
McDonald’s will sell you a double stack hamburger for a dollar, an astonishing food value for so little money. Chip Kelly coached his first NFL (preseason) game Friday against the New England Patriots, and served up a heap of double stacks, himself. In this case, the "double stack" is a flexible (aka "packaged") play with one running back and four out receivers –- one behind the other, wide on each side.

What a difference a week makes - Derek Sarley, IgglesBlog
You probably still remember the second-quarter run play where Mychal Kendricks (!) and Nate Allen (!!!) both blasted through the line of scrimmage to drop DeAngelo Williams in the backfield for a loss. One thing that jumped out is how similar it looked to a play against the Patriots that really stuck in my craw. Let's compare the set-ups.

No-22: Eagles Introduce 4-TE Package - Sheil Kapadia, Birds 24/7
The Eagles first showed the 4-TE package on their second drive of the first quarter. The look is one you should probably get used to. We saw it several times last week vs. New England, and the Eagles scored a pair of touchdowns off of it.

Eagles' D stout vs. Panthers ground game - Geoff Mosher, CSN Philly
On the Eagles’ first chance to stop Carolina’s run game Thursday night, Trent Cole barreled into Jordan Gross, sending the Pro Bowl left tackle to the ground and leaving halfback DeAngelo Williams headed straight for a sea of green-and-white jerseys without a lead block.

Charlie Manuel No Longer Phillies Manager - The Good Phight
Off topic, but noteworthy anyway.
