Preseason Preview: Panthers at Eagles

The Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles will meet tonight in what will be Nick Foles' first start of the preseason. While he will share first-team snaps with Michael Vick, this is the first opportunity for Foles to get to play more than one series against a starting defense. The quarterback battle has been the talk of Philadelphia for the last few months and Foles could either keep the competition alive or fail to gain ground on Vick against Carolina.

Along with with the starting quarterback contestants, the Eagles have several talented, young players looking to make an impact. On both offense and defense, Philadelphia has a lot of questions to answer and tonight could go a long way into solving the roster riddles.

Eagles to Watch

Michael Vick: Was last week a 2009 rebirth or just a few plays of random awesomeness?

Nick Foles: If Vick plays well (which I expect him to do), Foles has to play more than well to prove that the competition should continue. It's clear that the hurry-up offense works for the second-year quarterback.

Matt Barkley: He had an up-and-down first performance last week, but really it just proved that he is not an active member of the quarterback competition. Should be interesting to see if Barkley gets the whole second-half to show what he's got.

G.J. Kinne: The fifth-string quarterback has played literally everywhere in training camp and it will be interesting to see if he gets some live-action special teams work tonight. Kinne could actually last longer in Philadelphia than Dennis Dixon due to his versatility.

LeSean McCoy: Shady may get his first totes of the preseason and it will be interesting to see how he takes to Chip Kelly's offense in live-game action.

Bryce Brown: Last week, Brown had a very good performance, but now he plays the team that he broke out against during his rookie year. He should get plenty of time tonight.

Chris Polk: Time to put your training camp performance where you game-play is, young man.

Greg Salas: The guy just makes plays and he basically could lockup a spot tonight with another impressive performance.

Russell Shepard: The former LSU Tiger needs to show he can perform in games. If he repeats last week's performance, he may not stick.

Ifeanyi Momah: Will he show up?

Allen Barbre: He is likely to get starting snaps, so it'll be interesting to see how he progresses at left tackle.

Lane Johnson: He was very impressive at right tackle last week and here is hoping that continues.

Matt Tobin: All of the BGN staff at training camp thinks he could make the roster. Tonight will be a good test.

Vinny Curry: The 3-4 converted defensive end will look to continue his preseason success.

Damion Square: Not only is he fun to watch, but Square has a shot at legit playing time this year.

Emmanuel Acho/Jake Knott: The duo is coming off an impressive first preseason game and will hope to carry the momentum against Carolina.

Eddie Whitley: Will he make the team?

Cary Williams: Will he be able to make plays and back up his toughness talk?

Earl Wolff: The rookie could legitimately start this season. It's time to prove he is an upgrade over Nate Allen.
