The recent two-week shift of the 2014 NFL Draft that was necessitated by a scheduling conflict at New York's Radio City Music Hall could wind up being just the beginning of the changes coming to one of the league's glamor events in ensuing years.
Quarterback: You can view it as a cop-out, but really this is the most accurate way to rank them. Vick and Foles split first-team reps at every practice I attended. I know some people charted overall reps, but that can be a bit deceiving. For example, if a quarterback throws a 50-yard touchdown on the first play of a drill, he generally comes off. That's only one rep, but it's a successful one. The same thing happens if the quarterback throws an interception.
Three years after Dick Vermeil came to the Eagles, after it was apparent the former UCLA coach was building a winner, star linebacker Bill Bergey said this at a banquet: "In 1976 we got this little fellow from the Napa Valley. I'll tell you the truth, after two weeks of training camp I was thinking, 'This has to be the Harriest-high-school guy I've ever seen.' I was so tired at night I couldn't roll over in my bunk."
Lincoln Financial Field has served as the Eagles place of business since 2003. Over the span of the last 10 seasons, the team has been to the playoffs six times, won four division titles and one conference championship. The Linc, which has served as a replacement for the beloved Veterans Stadium (or "The Vet"), has hosted some of the team's most exciting victories and rough defeats. Still, while the Eagles has held residence at the stadium over the last decade, it has not served as a genuine beacon of victory for the team.
The Jacksonville Jaguars today were awarded third-year quarterback Mike Kafka off waivers from New England. Second-year tight end Matt Veldman was waived from the roster. Kafka, 6-3, 225, has played in four career games since entering the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick of Philadelphia in 2010. He spent two seasons with the Eagles and completed 11 of 16 passes for 107 yards. Kafka spent the 2012 preseason with the Eagles before he was waived during final cuts. He was signed by the Patriots on January 4, 2013.
In the coming weeks I will do a series of posts on the Philadelphia Eagles and how their players stack up at each position. These Tiers are an indication of what talent level can reasonably be expected of each player for the 2013 season. Future potential and contract status are not really taken into consideration, as this is more an indication of a players talent level and expected production.
