Gil Brandt: Bennie Logan is better than Mike Patterson

Is Eagles rookie Bennie Logan a better player than Mike Patterson? Gil Brandt thinks so.

Beth Hall-USA TODAY Sports

NFL Network's Gil Brandt, who is probably without question the most qualified of the media draft analysts, released his list of later round picks from the 2013 draft who could make an immediate impact this season.

Eagles 3rd round pick Bennie Logan was among the players he highlighted.

Logan should start as a rookie for the Eagles. He's a lot like Mike Patterson -- the defensive tackle who just left via free agency -- except Logan is better. He's strong (Logan had 30 reps on the bench press at the combine), has outstanding quickness for the position and is able to get off of blocks. He's also a good pass rusher for a defensive tackle. Logan wore No. 18 at LSU -- which is an honor given to the player who best represents the team, both on and off the field.

Given that Mike Patterson was a first round pick and Logan went in the 3rd round, it's kind of a surprise to see Brandt rate Logan higher. After all, Patterson did go on to start nearly 100 games for the Eagles.

Prospect projection is no easy game, so maybe Logan will be a better player than Patterson. But if all he did was become what Mike was here, he'd be a hell of a 3rd round pick.
