As we've done for the past probably 6 years, the NFL bloggers here at SBNation have gotten together to do a mock draft. The set up is simple, each writer plays GM for his team and makes the pick. There are no trades.
We will be doing a second around as well, which gets underway tomorrow.
For the Eagles first rounder, I chose Central Michigan OT Eric Fisher.
"If either of the top tackles fell to the Eagles, I think they'd be pretty happy, but especially so with Eric Fisher. As a better athlete than Luke Joeckel, Fisher should fit the more up-tempo style that Chip Kelly is likely to want to play."
"Plus, it's a need. The Eagles' offensive line struggled last year largely thanks to injuries to four out of five starters, but that's exactly why help is needed. There are no guarantees all come back healthy, and even if they do, Fisher still should represent an upgrade. If Jason Peters is ready to go at LT (a big "if"), Fisher could certainly slot over at RT for a few years. That would also allow the team to move Todd Herremans back inside, where he's been more effective than he was at RT."
Since then, we've learned that Jason Peters is evidently ready to go, but as you can see this really wouldn't change my mind. Fisher has played the right side before and if Michael Vick happens to be the QB next year, that's his blind side anyway. Our draft guy Dan Kadar liked the pick and the vast majority of readers gave me an "A." Yay for me.
Here's the full mock of our first round. For a full explanation and reaction to each pick, check out our storystream.
