Philadelphia Eagles put Dion Lewis on the trade block

Matt Sullivan

The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that the Eagles have put 3rd year RB Dion Lewis on the trade block. If I was Howie Roseman... I wouldn't expect my phone to be blowing up.

As Zach Berman points out, the writing may have been on the wall when Chip Kelly discussed the Eagles RBs at the league meetings mentioning McCoy, Brown & Polk but not Lewis...

Lewis is 5-8, 195 and according to Berman seen as too small to fit what Chip Kelly wants to do on offense. That said, he's not really any smaller than guys like Kenjon Barner and De'Anthony Thomas, who were used to great effect in Kelly's Oregon offense.

If Lewis is either traded for cut, he'll be the 5th player from the Eagles' 11 man 2011 draft class to no longer be on the team.

Lewis has 13 carries for 69 yards and a TD last season. Over 2 years with the Eagles he's carried the ball 36 times.
