2013 NFL draft liveblog: Results, trades & more

Mike Kaye live blogs day two of the 2013 NFL draft

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

10:23

Mike: Sam Montgomery is my least favorite player in the draft. He is a waste of great talent. Houston has a great locker room, so maybe he will turnout okay.

10:11

Mike: Stedman Bailey and Tavon Austin are about to make Sam Bradford a very happy boy. That is all.

9:57

Mike: Safety Shawn Williams is now a Bengal. That was a great pick. He is the type of guy that plays hard and is extremely local. Good leader. Jordan Reed of Florida heads to Washington and fits the Chris Cooley H-Back role. Jordan Hill is a nice addition at defensive tackle for Seattle. Brennan Williams is a very good tackle and very underrated. He goes to the Texans where he could likely start at right tackle.

9:40

Mike: Pair of really good picks for our rivals. Demontre Moore slid to the Giants and he will be a player, I promise you that. Dallas picked up J.J. Wilcox, who will help their secondary tremendously. He's a very solid safety and will likely start for them. The Saints traded up with the Fins to select Georgia's John Jenkins...so there is that.

9:32

Mike: Really impressed by the crowd at Radio City tonight. That Steve Gleason moment was fantastic. It was easily the best moment of an otherwise morosely paced draft. Am I the only person that think this draft is blowing by without any significance? The Fins just selected Dallas Thomas who I think will play guard in the NFL. Terrance Williams to Dallas scares me. Dude can streak down the field. Keenan Allen is a flat steal for San Diego. They seem to be picking after the popular names no one wants. WOW! Marquise Goodwin to the Bills. They have now added a top slot guy (Robert Woods) and a field stretch with Goodwin. Steelers totally just took a Steelers kind of WR. Markus Wheaton of Oregon State is now going wear black and yellow.

9:13

Mike: The Honeybadger was picked a few minutes ago and still is trying to figure out what an Arizona Cardinal is. I think it is a reach from a character perspective. Other pick worth noting is NC State QB Mike Glennon is headed to Tampa Bay to compete with Josh Freeman. Rams got a great pick in USC safety T.J. McDonald.

8:54

Mike: Bennie Logan it is. The LSU stud will likely play nose tackle for the Eagles. He has pass rush ability but is likely a two-downer for now. Good picks in the third round with Travis Kelce going to KC, Dwayne Gratz to Jax, Larry Warford to DET, and Sio Moore headed to OAK. The third round is off to a fast start and it appears the Eagles will wait on quarterback. Also, Les Bowen just announced that the Browns selected Leon McFadden of San Diego State. Good for him. Didn't know Les was a Browns fan.

8:36

Mike: So quick rundown: Ravens haves stolen Arthur Brown. I repeat, the Ravens have stolen Arthur Brown. Also, Vance McDonald is not Vernon Davis' backup in San Fran. D.J. Swearinger is headed to Houston and away from my dreams. Montee Ball is headed to Denver where he could play a huge role in his rookie season. The Pats got a big wide-out with solid hands in Marshall's Aaron Dobson. The Falcons added another cornerback in small schooler, Robert Alford. The Packers and Seahawks both added running backs. GBP went for Eddie Lacy, who fell hard. The Hawks went Christine Michael out of Texas A&M. And that's the 2nd round peeps.

8:06

Mike: My soul is crushed Klausner-style. My favorite player in the entire draft, Boise State cornerback Jamar Taylor. I am sad. The Bengals drafted Margus Hunt, athlete out of SMU. He should be interesting, depending where he plays in the lineup. He is a definite project.

7:57

Mike: This just in: I want Davone Bess' agent. Dude got a three-year extension playing well on a crappy team for 5 years. Good for him. David Amerson goes to the Skins. Good luck covering Desean Jackson with Amerson. Florida's Jon Bostic was a great pick for the Bears. He will likely replace Brian Urlacher in the middle. Bill Belichik and the Pats continue to just take raw talent and mold them with the selection of Southern Miss star linebacker, Jamie Collins.

7:45

Mike: Dan Klausner is officially on suicide watch. Jon Hankins, Ohio State defensive tackle and Dan's personal favorite, has been selected by the Giants. This has to be because of Alfred Morris, Bryce Brown and Lesean McCoy. Running just got real tough in the Meadowlands. The Cowboys took the extremely overrated Gavin Escobar, the tight end from San Diego State. So clearly, Jerry is still messing up. Now I must attend to Dan, who just referred to this draft as a "disaster."

7:35

Mike: Back to back inside linebackers! Kevin Minter is now a Cardinal and Kiko Alonso is now a Bill, as Buffalo continues to reach in this draft. Alonso will be an interesting player if the team stays 4-3, but if they kick it 3-4, he and Kelvin Sheppard would be an intriguing young pair. Minter makes a ton of sense for the Cards. He and Washington will make a great pair in the middle of Todd Bowles defense.

7:25

Mike: Dan Klausner favorite, FSU's Tank Carradine is now a 49er. He will likely be a rotational pass rusher. Menelik Watson went to the Raiders and will learn play football on Tony Sparono's offensive line. The Bucs added another cornerback in Mississippi State's Johnthan Banks. He is basically DRC 2.0 without speed. He is a good man corner but gives absolutely no effort in run support or even tackle attempts. That should be fun. Jamar Taylor, Jon Hankins, Phillip Thomas, and Jordan Poyer are all still on the board.

7:06

Mike: A lot sure happens in 11 minutes. Davone Bess has been traded from the Fins to the Browns to be their new slot wide receiver. Geno Smith to the Jets, Chargers traded up for Manti Teo, and Andre Smith has resigned with the Bengals. I am super glad Smith was drafted by the Jets, so that we did not have to deal with this for another round. Wayne Chrebet looked disheartened announcing the pick. In other news, Teo will be available via AIM for comments when he arrives in San Diego. I do not know if you noticed but there was a Jets fan that looked like he wanted to kill himself at the draft.

6:55 p.m.

Mike: And away we go. Jaguars took safety Jon Cyprien from FIU and the Titans traded up with the 49ers to get local kid and Tennessee wide receiver, Justin Hunter. But you do not care about that. With the 35th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Eagles selected Stanford tight end Zach Ertz. In what most fans will consider either a reach or luxury pick, Ertz brings mismatches. He will play a wide receiver/tight end hybrid role for the Eagles. Ertz could be the Jimmy Graham for the Eagles. You will see him on the outside and in the slot. While most fans will not find this ideal, we knew the Eagles wanted to add multiple tight ends.

The Eagles got their 2013 draft off to a solid start last night picking Oklahoma OT Lane Johnson with the #4 overall pick. Tonight they will continue their selections with rounds 2 and 3 where the Eagles will selected 3rd and 5th overall respectively.
