Who will the Eagles select tomorrow tonight? If you ask Florida State QB E.J. Manuel, the answer is... Florida State QB E.J. Manuel.
"They want me pretty bad," he said.
CSNPhilly's Geoff Mosher spoke with Manuel at the NFL's Play 60 events in New York today and the Seminole signal caller was very confident in the Eagles interest in him. They better act quick though, he warned.
"But I think it's just a matter of who takes me first, because I know the Eagles may want me, the Cleveland Browns may want me, the Buffalo Bills and the Jets," he said. "I think those are all sequential picks, you know what I mean, within those top 13 picks or whatever. I'm just hoping one team loves me, because really, that's all you need, one team to fall in love with you."
Thing is, Manuel probably has gotten indications from teams about how much they like him. But ask anyone that's ever gone through the draft process, just because a team tells you love you and think you're the greatest... doesn't mean they'll be calling on draft night.
Manuel said he understands this.
"I don't know if all those things are smoke screens. I don't know," he said. "That's why I don't look too deep into them. That's just why I want to wait until [Thursday] night."
I think we'd all be very surprised to hear his name called in the top 10, but when all those teams he mentioned come up in the 2nd round on Friday night... then this interest he's gotten could really manifest.
