Smokescreen season is heating up faster than Andy Reid's heartburn after a Philly cheesesteak from Geno's with too much chili sauce. While Howie and Co. plan out their weekend, true and false information is leaking like crazy. Everyone has gotten in on the game, from Jeff McLane reporting that the Eagles are already trying to ship the number 4 pick to Peter King implying the team is ready to roll with Nick Foles. As the day has gone on, more and more information has made its way to Twitter and the television networks.
Several reports say the Eagles have determined their four players that the team is comfortable with at the 4th pick. Who those guys are has only been speculated and not been confirmed. NFL Network's Albert Breer believes that the Eagles four guys are a mix and match of the top three offensive tackles, Dion Jordan and Star Lotulelei.
Along with the options at 4, reports have come out about who the Eagles could target in a trade down. According to Jason LaConfora, he hears the Eagles could target LSU's Barkevious Mingo as early as their original pick. Also, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Eagles touched base with West Virginia's Tavon Austin on Monday. Both Mingo and Austin would likely be targets for a trade down within the top 10.
These are mostly (if not all) smokescreen. Roseman has proven to be a smart guy when it comes to manipulating the trade and draft landscape and he has hit the ground running just 48 hours before the draft. During this time, there are mostly unfounded rumors, but every now and then there is a sprinkle of truth. It will be interesting to see which is which on draft day.
