Nnamdi Asomugha signs with the 49ers

Congratulations 49ers, you're the new owner of a slightly used former Pro Bowl CB. Yes, it's true the old owners left it on the side of the road with the keys in it even though they still had payments to make... and yes, the engine seems to have blown cylinder or two.... Sure, if you slam the door too hard, it will tip over...

But hey, your neighbor used have this model and they really liked him!

Former Eagle and Raider Nnamdi Asomugha has signed a 1-year, $1.35m deal with the San Francisco 49ers. It's pretty telling that such a deal was the best Nnamdi could find. Then again, that's not really uncommon for a soon to be 32 year old corner coming off two really awful seasons. Relative to his production, the 49ers probably overpaid...

That said, none of the money is guaranteed and plus he's still drawing $4m from the Eagles this year. So Nnamdi won't be bouncing any checks in the near future.

So now begins the process of 49ers fans convincing themselves that the least two seasons were just an illusion or repeating the myth that Nnamdi only played zone in Philadelphia and therefore it wasn't his fault at all he was so awful. Or how about, the situation in Philly was so bad that poor Nnamdi just couldn't handle it and his play suffered as a result? Because a guy who played in Oakland his whole career would never have experienced losing and dysfunction before...

Of course, now also starts the process of us Eagles fans hoping we're right about Nnamdi and really is as awful as he played the last two seasons.

Personally, I'm pretty confident we won't be seeing a career revival from Nnamdi in San Fran. QBs had a rating of 120.6 throwing at him last year. He was in the bottom 10 in the NFL in terms of tackling efficiency for corners. Those numbers are no coincidence. They aren't Juan Castillo's fault. They're not evidence of a player that's too sad... They're numbers of a once great player that has simply lost his legs.

You should totally not now tell 49ers fans you know that they've been "Nnamdi'd" and send them pictures like this or this. That would be totally mean...
