Philadelphia Eagles release QB Trent Edwards

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

With the first veteran minicamp just one day away, the Eagles announced that they have released veteran QB Trent Edwards. Edwards' release means the Eagles currently carry 4 QBs on the roster: Michael Vick, Nick Foles, Dennis Dixon & G.J. Kinne.

The veteran QB did play in one game as an Eagle, attempting and completing 2 passes. So he's 100% for his Eagles career!

It's certainly not an unexpected cut although you may have expected it to come a little earlier than it did. Edwards certainly has a place somewhere in this league, but it's not on a team starting a brand new offense from scratch.

Obviously we always try to read between the lines on any transaction but I don't think there's much to read into with this one. Vick & Foles are your top 2. Dennis Dixon is kind of the Edwards of last year as a guy who has been in the league a while and has some familiarity with the system. I don't think Kinne is much more than a camp arm.
