NFL fans and the media tend to overrate and underrate certain players, because both groups are not professional scouts. That's why, when a guy with scouting experience diagnoses a player in either category, it becomes a bit more notable. Former Seattle Seahawks scout, Bucky Brooks of NFL Network, has released his annual "Overrated and Underrated" lists for the 2013 Drafts. Names on both sides with be familiar to Eagles fans, as they have been linked to some of these players in recent months.
Here are both of Brooks' lists:
Overrated
1. Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
2. Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah
3. Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse
4. Jonathan Cyprien, S, Florida International
5. Datone Jones, DE, UCLA
Underrated
1. Darius Slay, CB, Mississippi State
2. E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida State
3. DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson
4, Le'Veon Bell, RB, Michigan State
5. Duke Williams, S, Nevada
Now, like the BGN Staff, you are most likely to have guys you like on each side. The great thing about the draft process is that everything is open to interpretation. Everyone sees things differently on tape. As a former scout, Brooks' opinions likely hold more weight than Mel Kiper or Eric Stoner, so again it is worth noting as the draft approaches.
Question is, are you buying that any of these players are over or underrated?
