The Eagles announced today that they've officially signed QB G.J. Kinne to a 2 year deal. The move was first reported a couple weeks ago.
Kinne played under current Eagles quality control coach Press Taylor at Tulsa, where Eagles WR Damaris Johnson was one of his weapons. In his senior year, Kinne (6-2, 234), threw for 3,090 yards and 28 TDs. He also ran for 405 yards and 3 TDs.
Yes, another athletic QB... Kinne ran a 4.59 40 at his Pro Day.
Kinne was originally signed by the Jets as a UDFA last season and has since had short stints in the Arena league and UFL.
He makes the 5th QB on the Eagles current roster joining Michael Vick, Nick Foles, Trent Edwards & Dennis Dixon. Either way, Kinne is likely just a camp body, but it should be interesting to see whether Chip Kelly decides to keep 5 QBs throughout the summer. One of things he was most famous and most lauded for at Oregon were his innovative and upbeat practices. His teams would run a lot of reps, so it could be that he feels he needs some extra QBs for his practices.
Or Trent Edwards could be cut tomorrow. We'll see.
