The Eagles were one of the teams rumored to be in on pro bowl safety Dashon Goldson, but from the start of free agency the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the clear favorite. They sent a private jet to San Francisco to pick him up and today announced that they've signed him to a 5 year deal. The deal is worth $41.25 million, with $22 million guaranteed.
Goldson will be expected to be a band aid for what was the league's worst secondary last year
Eagles GM Howie Roseman said today that the team has a "walk away" number for every potential free agent that they've targeted. So if they were interested in Goldson, there's a decent chance that they learned over the weekend that the money he was going to get was over the "walk away" number they had placed on him.
Given that Tom Gamble, who helped bring Goldson to San Francisco, is in Philadelphia's front office now the Eagles probably know more about what Goldson is really worth than most teams.
In other free agent news, Wes Welker is said to be close to a deal with... the Denver Broncos! What a steal that would be from the Patriots. And how about Welker going from Tom Brady to Peyton Manning? Meanwhile, Pats fans are freaking out.
