Multiple sources have confirmed that the Eagles are in pursuit of Texans' FB/HB/TE James Casey. The Houston Chronicle is reporting that he will visit Philadelphia.
The 6-3, 240lb Casey was used primarily as a FB by Houston, but the Eagles and other teams see him as more of a TE or H-Back type player. He would offer the team flexibility a guy who can catch passes, but also be a great lead blocker if asked.
Casey was named to the USA Today's "All Joe" team which looks to recognize the best players who have never made a Pro Bowl. Here's what they had to say.
Versatility personified. He's played quite a bit of tight end for Houston but settled in last season as the lead blocker for Arian Foster, who churned out 1,424 yards. Casey once played seven positions in one game while attending Rice and could probably spell Texans quarterback Matt Schaub in a pinch. After all, Casey spent three years pitching in the Chicago White Sox farm system
If he does indeed come, it should be very interesting to see how Chip Kelly plans to use him.
