The Eagles need for help at the safety position has been well chronicled here on BGN for the past few months. So it should come as no surprise that the names the Eagles are most often connected to in the rumor stage of free agency.
Adam Schefter reported earlier that the Eagles are among the teams in the running for 49ers All Pro safety Dashon Goldson. Now, CSNPhilly's Geoff Mosher says the Eagles are among the teams that have shown interest in Pro Bowl safety Laron Landry.
As Eagles fans, we always had a chuckle watching Landry with the Redskins, especially when he tried to cover DeSean Jackson... But last year with the Jets was probably the best of his career. He was a deserving pro bowler, was much better in coverage and continued to be an excellent in the box safety. Most importantly, he stayed healthy, which is something he struggled mightily to do over last couple years in Washington.
Landry would certainly bring a physical presence to the Eagles secondary and if last year was a sign that he has turned the corner as a player, he could be a very good starting safety for another 3 or 4 years.
