Report: Philadelphia Eagles hire Bearcats DB coach John Lovett

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

The Eagles coaching staff is close to completion as Coachingsearch.com is reporting that Chip Kelly has hired Cincinnati Bearcats DB coach John Lovett for an unspecified job in Philadelphia. Most likely it will be DB coach.

The 62 year old Lovett has been coaching at the college level since 1978 and had a short stint in the NFL with the Jets in 1984. He's been a defensive coordinator for a large part of his career at a lot of big programs including Auburn, Clemson & Miami. He's coached DBs most recently at Texas Tech & Cincy and previously at UNLV & Ole Miss.

It's tough to cobble together all of the reports to see what positions if any the Eagles have left to higher. It's been reported that Chip Kelly didn't want to announce his staff until it was complete. If it's not done now, it has to be pretty close.

Here is the staff as I know it.

Offense

OC: Pat Shurmur

QB: Bill Lazor

RB: Duce Staley

TE: Ted Williams

OL: Jeff Stoutland

WR: Brian Bicknell

Defense

DC: Billy Davis

DL: Jerry Azzinaro

DB: John Lovett

LB: Bill McGovern, Rick Minter (probably 1 will be ILB and 1 OLB)

Special teams

STC: Dave Fipp

There are also a number of Oregon guys he brought over that will likely fill out quality control positions. It seems like the notable positions on the staff are full.
