Today and tomorrow GMs and coaches from every NFL team will meet the media in Indianapolis for a quick 15 minute press conference. Chip Kelly and Howie Roseman will speak at 2:30 and 2:45 today.
Earlier, Greg Schiano took the podium and as a guy who made the jump from college head coach to pro coach last year himself, he was asked if he had any advice for Chip Kelly?
"My biggest advice would be to say, 'Thank you, Chip.' Had Chip not decided what he did last year, I wouldn't be standing here," Schiano said.
Kelly was offered the head job with the Bucs last season but turned it down... so the team moved on to Schiano.
"I'm happy for Chip," Schiano continued. "He's going to do a great job. It's something that he's excited about doing there. We had a chance to visit a little bit at the Senior Bowl and he doesn't need any advice from me. He's going to do an excellent job."
As PE.com points out, Schiano didn't draft any of his former players from Rutgers last year, but he did grab a few players from conference rivals. He noted that the familiarity with these guys and having already seen tape on them before the draft process even started did give him a bit of an advantage. That has a lot to do with what Southern Philly wrote in a great fanpost yesterday that I recommend you check out.
