Report: Eagles won't franchise tag Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

Today is the first day that NFL teams can use the franchise tag designation on pending free agents. They have until March 4th to the use the tag, so I wouldn't expect any news on guys getting tagged today. Teams will continue to negotiate with the potential franchise players over the next couple weeks before tagging them.

CSNPhilly's Geoff Mosher is reporting that the Eagles will not use the tag this year and since their only free agent that could conceivably get the tag is Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie... Put two and two together.

If the Eagles were to tag DRC, it would cost them around $10.7m next season. Anyone who has watched him over the last two seasons would probably come to the same conclusion the Eagles have... he's not worth $10+ million.

Now this doesn't mean DRC is gone. The team could still work on a new deal with him prior to the start of free agency or they could do the same even after he hits the open market. My guess is that DRC will test the waters to see if there's a team out there that still believes he can regain the Pro Bowl form he showed back in 2009, when he looked like one of the most promising young CBs in the game.
