Chip Kelly: Eagles won't be a "label" defense

Rob Carr

So the Eagles are moving to a 3-4 right? No wait, it's more of a hybrid 4-3 under right?

If you're looking for something definitive to label this Eagles defense, don't ask Chip Kelly.

"We're not going to be a label defense," he said.

Chip admitted that he prefers the 3-4, but realizes that a change can't be made in a day. So he liked that new defensive coordinator Billy Davis had versatility in terms of experience with 3-4 and 4-3. He said that whether or not they are look like a 3-4 or 4-3 under or anything else will be personnel driven and they haven't had their first OTA yet. Chip said doesn't like labels and doesn't think they're particularly important.

Kelly did say that the Eagles made a request to interview one of the Super Bowl assistants for defensive coordinator but the other team declined. In terms of Billy Davis however, Chip said that he wanted to hire him as soon as he interviewed him.
