2014 NFL Mock Draft: Eagles Take Cornerback Bradley Roby

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

Dan Kadar of SB Nation's Mocking the Draft has released his latest mock draft and he has the Eagles going with a defensive player in the first round.

Here's what Kadar had to say about the Eagles pick:

23. Philadelphia Eagles: Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State

Roby had a down junior season at Ohio State, but he's still a talented player. He tended to gamble and lose too often this season and may just need good coaching. Don't forget that before the season many had Roby as a top 10-15 talent. The Eagles need all the secondary help they can get.

For reference, Josh Collacchi has Roby ranked 35th out of his top 50 prospects that he released on Wednesday.

As Kadar suggests, Philadelphia definitely could use some help in the secondary. The Eagles will likely enter next season with starting CBs Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher under contract. Roby could compete for a starting job or sit the bench and develop behind Williams and Fletcher.

While it makes sense for the Eagles to take the best available player, I'm not sure if cornerback is the direction they will go with their first overall pick. Williams and Fletcher certainly aren't stars, but they are capable of being solid starters.
