NFL Fantasy Football Guide: Championship Week

Ezra Shaw

It is championship week in fantasy football this week, and the last week for us as a fantasy community in standard redraft leagues. I am in seven championships this week, so I am hoping to win at least a few of them. Here’s to you winning yours as well, and bringing in some extra income to lessen the holiday shopping stranglehold on your wallet.

The biggest thing in championship games is the need for points, and while this sounds like a cliché, it could not be emphasized enough. This is not the time to take unnecessary risks. Get your best players in and your most consistent players. This is not the time to start Nate Burleson over Kendall Wright, get your best players in for this week, and bring home the trophy.

Should you be in the championship this week, chances are there is not much discussion over your lineup, so I am not going to recommend starting certain players over others, but in these matchups, kickers, tight ends, and defenses can make all the difference. Here are some picks at each of these positions that can help put you over the edge and win your fantasy championship.

Best of luck to all of you, and here is to winning your fantasy Super Bowl!

Tight Ends

For those of you who do not have Jimmy Graham, Vernon Davis, Julius Thomas, Jason Witten or Tony Gonzalez, we are all looking for that one tight end to start that can get us double-digit points. Some who may be available and have good matchups are:

Charles Clay vs. Buffalo

Delanie Walker vs. Jacksonville

Zach Ertz vs. Chicago

Mychal Rivera vs. Oakland

Kickers

As many of you saw last week, a kicker can be the reason you win, or the reason you lose. Somehow I was able to escape Justin Tucker’s monster day, but chances are many of you had him and was propelled by his rocket leg. This week some of the better kickers for those who stream:

Nick Novak vs. Oakland

Graham Gano vs. New Orleans

Shayne Graham vs. Carolina

Defense

Defense wins championships. While not as true in fantasy as it may be in real life, a good defense can win you a fantasy championship as well. Here are the best available defenses to stream this week. Remember, a defensive or special teams touchdown can win you a trophy.

Dallas vs. Washington

San Diego vs. Oakland

St. Louis vs. Tampa Bay

Good luck to everyone this week, and happy holidays from all of us here at BGN.
