In 2012, the Eagles did not send a single player to the Pro Bowl. The team went 4-12 and Andy Reid was fired. With Chip Kelly taking over, the Eagles are back on track for success. And not only team success, but individual player success as well. One of the Eagles' players is currently a top-ten vote getters for the 2014 Pro Bowl: LeSean McCoy. The Eagles star running back may rank a little lower than you expected, though. He's currently 9th overall and the 4th running back on the voting list behind Jamaal Charles, Marshawn Lynch, and Adrian Peterson.
Here's how those top four RBs compare when you look at the stats:
Rush Yards | Yards/Game | Rush/Carry | TD | Receiving Yards | Receiving TD | Yards from Scrimmage | Total TD | Fumbles | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
LeSean McCoy | 1,343 | 95.9 | 5.0 | 7 | 507 | 1 | 1850 | 8 | 1 |
Jamaal Charles | 1,181 | 84.4 | 4.8 | 11 | 655 | 7 | 1836 | 18 | 4 |
Marshawn Lynch | 1,089 | 77.8 | 4.2 | 11 | 307 | 2 | 1396 | 13 | 3 |
Adrian Peterson | 1,221 | 93.9 | 4.6 | 10 | 169 | 1 | 1390 | 11 | 3 |
As you can see from the chart, McCoy doesn't have as many TDs as the others, so maybe that's what's keeping him down. That seems silly though because he's providing a lot more total offense than both Lynch and Peterson. Having Charles over McCoy is more of a reasonable argument, but I still maintain McCoy is the better back.
There isn't a single position on the Pro Bowl ballot where an Eagles player is in the lead. Take a look for yourself:
Other Eagles players in consideration for the Pro Bowl could be: Donnie Jones, Nick Foles, DeSean Jackson, Evan Mathis, DeMeco Ryans.
The game is a little different this year. Instead of the usual conference battle (AFC vs. NFC), players will be assigned to teams via a Pro Bowl Draft.
Pro Bowl voting ends on December 26th, and the winners will be announced on Friday, December 27th, 2013. Selection is based on voting from fans, coaches, and players. The game will take place in Hawaii on January 26th, 2014.
